A billet is a host family that cares for young hockey players during the Junior hockey league season as a home-away-from-home. BILLET MAMA features my mother, Josi Ienna - the ultimate hockey mom. Josi has housed multiple OHL hockey players from the Windsor Spitfires over the past seven years and some of these boys have gone on to play in the NHL.
Josi lives with her husband Jack in the small town of Tecumseh, a half hour drive outside of Windsor, Ontario. Many of Jack and Josi's closest friends are from the hockey community. They has close ties with the coaching staff and other billet families, having been heavily involved in the local hockey culture since their own son Robert started playing twenty-four years ago. Josi regularly attends Spitfire games and some of the billet moms even road trip together to cheer on their billets out of town.
Growing up as a rink rat, I have witnessed my mother's fierce devotion to the hockey community and her undying love for the team and their players. She has always been everybody's mom, welcoming anyone into her home.
